Featured Story – THE MAKING OF A WARRIOR
Gene Dodak’s monumental totems and warrior heads – wheel-thrown, altered and meticulously carved – reference tribal strength without adhering to one particular culture. As the artist explains, each is a canvas where “thoughts and symbols suggest a language of the mind.”

Ceramic artist Gene Dodak’s exhibition The Making of a Warrior continues through Nov. 30. After a career in landscape and design in the Bay Area, Dodak rediscovered a love of clay after moving to Palm Springs in 2004. “I’m captivated by the Polynesian cultures, nature, marine life, and the visual arts throughout history,” he states. “Creating artwork expresses a connection to the spiritual.”
