Ohana is our 1958 mid-century Meiselman home. We chose the Hawaiian word for family – the one you’re born with and the one you gather along the way – because we believe everyone who walks through the gate belongs here.
Owned by Art Strong and Gene Dodak, ʻOhana is both our home and Gene’s creative playground. Gene grew up in Michigan dreaming of palm trees, and Palm Springs turned out to be a very good place to make that dream come true.
The gardens unfold as a series of outdoor rooms layered with palms and cycads, designed to blur the line between architecture, nature, and art. You’ll also see plumeria throughout the property.
Most of the artwork you’ll experience is personal. We’re closely connected to nearly every artist represented, and many are dear friends.
Inside the home, throughout the garden, and in the studio, you’ll find Gene’s sculptural ceramics alongside works by influential mid-century artist Paul Bellardo, a cherished friend and mentor whose guidance helped shape Gene’s artistic journey.
You’ll also see an important collection by another close friend, Bob Glover, whose pieces live comfortably throughout the property as if they’ve always belonged.
Thank you for visiting our ʻOhana.
